Telugu Desam Party


Telugu Desam Party, also called TDP, was formed on March 29, 1982 by NT Rama Rao. It's current President is Nara Chandrababu Naidu.

In the 8th Lok Sabha 1984, Telugu Desam Party was the second largest party with 39 members. In the recent 2009 elections, the Telugu Desam Party won 92 seats in the 12th Andhra Pradesh Assembly.

Three Seemandhra ministers - Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Erasu Pratap Reddy and TG Venkatesh join Telugu Desam Party. MLAs from Vizag - Avanti Srinivas, Venkatramaiah, Panchakarla Ramesh Babu and Kannababu also joined the party. Feb 27, 2014

Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu addressed a huge gathering at Praja Garjana programme at VR College ground in Nellore. Addressing the public meeting, Chandrababu said that Telugu Desam Party's victory in Andhra Pradesh is a historical necessity to bring a strong state. Congress legislators Adala Prabhakar Reddy, M Sridhar Krishna Reddy and former legislator Polamreddy Srinivasulu Reddy joined Telugu Desam. March 5, 2014

TDP suspends two rebel MLAs who refused to withdraw their nominations in the 2014 elections. R Jitender Gowd (Guntakal) and Radha Durga Prasada Rao (Kadapa) were told to withdraw their nominations as the constituencies were allocated to BJP as part of alliance. TDP chief Chandrababu also ssuspended former MLAs Nimmaka Jayaraj (Kurupam), Kumbha Ravibabu (Araku), Kottu Satyanarayana (Tadepalligudem), Anitha Sukru (Bheemili), SVSS Varma (Pithapuram) and T.V. The Telugu Desam Party has decided to convey only one opinion at the all-party meet on Telangana issue on December 28. The Centre has invited two representatives from each party to attend the meet. TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu held an in-camera meeting with TDP leaders from Telangana. MP Ramesh Rathod, TDP legislators, MLCs and other leaders from the region attended the meeting.
