2012

In September 2012, Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said that the coalgate controversy would be soon forgotten as Bofors. His comments came during the sidelines of a function in Pune on September 15, 2012. The comment drew sharp reactions with opposition parties who reminded that the Congress lost power after the Bofors controversy. Congress was unable to get a majority on its own since then.

The main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party ridiculed the Home Minister's comments. BJP leader Balbir Punj said, "In 1984 post-Indira Gandhi's death, when elections happened, Congress had won more than 400 seats. After five years post Bofors scandal, Congress was out of power and its seats got halved. It's a different matter whether people have forgotten Bofors or not but Congress has forgotten what Bofors had done to it. Since then, Congress has not got majority on its own,"

Janata Dal (United) President Sharad Yadav said, "He has come to Delhi very recently. His importance is due to Congress party. Better he confines himself to speaking about Home Ministry. He should speak less on political issues,"

Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh defended Shinde over the remarks saying, "See, you got Shinde wrong. The way false accusations were made on Bofors, false accusations are being made on the coal scam, that's what he meant,".

The driver's number and license will also be displayed on the bus.

Shinde convened an all-party meeting on Telangana issue. After the meeting, he announced that the Government will resolve the Telangana issue within a month. The all-party meeting was attended by representatives of eight political parties from Andhra Pradesh. Dec 28, 2012
