Sanjay Nirupam

Sanjay Nirupam is a Lok Sabha MP of the Congress Party representing North Mumbai parliamentary constituency.

Prior to being elected to the Lok Sabha, Sanjay Nirupam was twice nominated to the Rajya Sabha. His first stint was with Shiv Sena party, and later with the Congress party.

Sanjay Nirupam is the Secretary of AICC and also Secretary-in-Charge of the Karnataka. He is one of the National spokespersons of the Congress Party to express the Party's view on different issues. He is a member of Parliamentary Committees like Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and Energy Committee.


In a television debate, Sanjay Nirupam has made an allegedly abusive and derogatory remarks against BJP MP Smriti Irani. The remark was condemned by the BJP party which has threatened to take legal action if the Nirupam doesn't apologize. The BJP party also demanded Congress president Sonia Gandhi to take action against Nirupam and apologize herself. Sonia Gandhi has sent a legal notice to Nirupam for indulging in "gross defamation". The BJP also threatened not to participate in any television debates where Nirupam is participating. December 20, 2012
