As Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and former Home Minister

Patil submitted his resignation feeling uneasy in the wake of November Mumbai terror attacks. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar said that Patil wanted to step down earlier but was advised to stay on till the operation against the terrorists ends. He is succeeded by Chhagan Bhujbal who took charge as the new Deputy Chief Minister.
