Manmohan Singh is currently the Prime Minister of India. He is the first Prime Minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to return to power after completing a full five-year term.
Dr. Singh is re-selected by the Congress Party as its Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2009 Indian Parliament Elections. On Saturday, May 16, 2009, the Congress party confirmed Dr Singh will remain as Prime Minister after the United Progressive Alliance registered its historic win. Sharad Pawar reconfirmed Manmohan will undisputedly be the Prime Minister from UPA. This will make Manmohan Singh the only Congress Prime Minister next to Jawaharlal Nehru to be re-elected after completing a 5-year term. He will equal Atal Bihari Vajpayee's feat of becoming PM for two consecutive terms.
Dr Manmohan Singh took oath as PM for the second time on May 22, 2009. 19 cabinet ministers also took oath along with him. Just a day after taking oath, he called upon cabinet meeting with the new cabinet ministers.
On September 23, 2009, Manmohan Singh congratulated the ISRO scientists for their successful Oceansat-2 launch. He later left to participate G20 summit in Pittsburgh, USA.
In October 09, he said the border dispute between India and China is a complex and time consuming issue, which will be discussed by Foreign Ministers of both the countries in Bangalore from 27th October.
In December 09, Dr. Singh was on an official visit to the United States.
