About Pranab Mukherjee

Pranab Mukherjee (Born: December 11, 1935 at Mirati village, Kirnahar town, Birbhum districct, West Bengal, India) is the Indian Finance Minister. He is a teacher, journalist and an author. He presented the Indian Union Budget 2010-2011 on February 26, 2010 in the Parliament.

Pranab Mukherjee was a member of the high-level Government panel to review defence personnel pay hike.

As Minister

He served as Deputy Minister for Industrial Development (February 1973 - January 1974), Deputy Minister for Shipping and Transport (January 1974 - October 1974), Minister of State for Finance (October 1974 - December 1975) and Minister of Revenue and Banking (Independent Charge) (December 1975 - March 1977), Cabinet Minister of Commerce and Steel & Mines (January, 1980 to January, 1982), Cabinet Minister of Finance from (January, 1982 to December, 1984) with additional charge of Ministry of Commerce and Supply (September to December 31, 1984), Depurty Chairman, Planning Commission (June 1991 to May, 1996), Cabinet Minister of Commerce (January 1993 to February, 1995), Cabinet Minister of External Affairs (February, 1995 to May, 1996) and Cabinet Minister of Defence (May 22, 2004). He also served as the Indian External Affairs Minister and later has held the additional charge of Union Finance Minister when Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh was ill.
