PA Sangma

PA Sangma is a Politician in India. He is a former Chief Minister of Meghalaya and is also a former Lok Sabha Speaker. Sangma is the co-founder of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). He was a member of Lok Sabha for eight terms.

He was a Presidential Candidate in the 2012 Indian Presidential Election. Sangma was supported by NDA and has contested against Congress politician Pranab Mukherjee who eventually became the President of India.

After he lost the Presidential Election, Sangma filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the election of Pranab Mukherjee. Sangma contended that Pranab Mukherjee was holding an office of profit at the time of filing of his nomination. On December 5, 2012 a five-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court has dismissed the petition with a 3:2 majority. Chief Justice Altamas Kabir and Justices P Sathasivam and SS Nijjar have formed the majority.
