About Mulayam Singh Yadav

Mulayam Singh Yadav is the Chief of Samajwadi Party. He was a three-time Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh (1989-91, 1993-95, 2003-07). He also served as Minister of Defense from June 1996 to March 1998 in the United Front Government.

His son Akhilesh Yadav is the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Professional Biography

As Politician

In June 09, Mulayam said he is opposing the Womens Reservation Bill in its present form. This is followed by a similar announcement by Lalu Prasad Yadav.

2014 General Elections

Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said that the third front will be formed only after the Lok Sabha elections. On September 13, 2012 Mulayam said that the party would take a stock of the political situation after the elections and will decide on the Third Front. He said that SP would maintain good relations with all like-minded regional parties. He added that looking at the current political situation, early elections are likely.

Honors, Accomplishments

Mulayam Singh Yadav has been selected for the International Jurists Award 2012. He will be honored on May 28, 2012 in London.

Temple dedicated to Mulayam Singh Yadav

The Samajwadi Party workers and followers of Mulayam Singh are erecting a temple dedicated to their party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav at Nagla Mali in Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh. The temple called 'Samjwadi Chalisa' would be ready by March 2013. The foundation of the temple was laid on Mulayam's birthday on November 22 in 2012. The temple is constructed by party secretary Rajesh Saini.


Mulayam Singh Yadav alleged that over 7,000 farmers had committed suicide in Gujarat during the tenure of Chief Minister Narendra Modi. During a rally in Hardoi, Mulayam Yadav appealed to the Muslim voters to vote for Samajwadi Party as it is the only party in the country that cares about the condition of the minorities.
