Mopidevi Venkataramana Rao

Mopidevi Venkataramana Rao is a Congress politician and a MLA representing the Repalle, Guntur constituency. He is the former Excise Minister of Andhra Pradesh in Kiran Kumar Reddy's Government.

Mopidevi Venkataramana Rao is an accused in the disproportionate assets case against Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy. He is currently lodged at the Chanchalguda jail.

Profile

Venkata Ramana Rao was born in 1964 at Nizampatnam. His father is M. Veera Raghavaiah. He has a Bachelor in Arts degree. Mopidevi Venakta Ramana was married to M Aruna and they have two children - one son and a daughter.

On February 7, 2012 Mopidevi Venkata Ramana's name was mentioned in the ACB remand report to have allegedly received a kickback of Rs. 10 lakh from a liquor dealer. The report was submitted to the special court of ACB. Venkata Ramana denied the allegations and said that it was unfortunate to include his name without any evidence. He offered to quit as Minister if the allegations were proved.

Disproportionate Assets case against Jagan Mohan Reddy

Mopidevi Venkataramana Rao is an accused in the disproportionate assets case against Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy. He is the fourth accused in the VANPIC case which is being probed by the CBI.

On December 18, 2012 the Principal Special Court for CBI cases in Hyderabad has granted a conditional interim bail to Mopidevi to visit Sabarimala and other religious places from December 24, 2012 to January 2, 2013. The court directed him to submit two bonds of Rs. 25,000 each and surety from two persons. The court also cautioned him not to make any attempts of meddling with the investigation in VANPIC case. A constable of the CBI will accompany him during the trip.

Mopidevi Venkataramana Rao surrenders himself before the Principal Special Court for CBI cases following the expiry of his 10-day interim bail. He is remanded till Friday. Jan 3, 2013
