About Lalu Prasad Yadav

Lalu Prasad Yadav is the President of Rashtriya Janata Dal party in Bihar. He is a Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha representing Saran constituency in Bihar.

Lalu Prasad is a former Indian Union Minister for Railways. He served as the Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009 in the UPA government. He is also a former Chief Minister of Bihar.

Former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi is his wife.

Professional Biography

Lalu Prasad Yadav entered politics during his college days at the Patna University. He was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1977 as a candidate of the Janata Party. At 29, he was one of the youngest members of Parliament at that time.

In 2014, Lalu Prasad Yadav in an interview with Arnab Goswami has revealed that his ambition is to become Prime Minister of India.

2014 Elections

Lalu Prasad Yadav said if voted to power he would ban RSS and BJP for "hate mongering". He criticized Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Praveen Togadia and BJP's Giriraj Singh's remarks. Lalu Yadav said that these organisations work to spread hate among the people. Apr 23, 2014

Lalu Prasad Yadav tweeted that he has stopped BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's ambition to become prime minister the way he stopped LK Advani's rath yatra in Bihar in 1990. Without taking names, Lalu Yadav tweeted "Earlier I had stopped the teacher, now it is the turn of his disciple." Reacting to the tweet, BJP leaders ridiculed that Lalu Prasad should first have to stop BJP from winning in Saran constituency from which his wife Rabri Devi is contesting. May 8, 2014

Lalu Yadav held negotiations with Congress party on seat sharing in Bihar. Speaking to reporters after arriving from Delhi, he said that he offered 11 of Lok Sabha seats in Bihar to Congress and one seat to Nationalist Congress Party, while his party RJD will contest in 28 seats.
