Kavuri Sambasiva Rao


Kavuri Sambasiva Rao is a politician belonging to Bhartiya Janata Party in Andhra Pradesh. He is a former Congress politician. Sambasiva Rao is a Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha representing Eluru parliamentary constituency. He also served as a Union Minister.

Kavuri Samba Siva Rao has been elected to the Lok Sabha for six times. He was born on October 2, 1943. Samba Siva Rao has represented Machilipatnam and Eluru Constituencies in his political career.

Kavuri Sambasiva Rao is a five-time Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha. He was first elected as a Member of Parliament in the 8th Lok Sabha in 1984. He was also re-elected as an MP in 1989, 1998, 2004 and 2009.

Sambasiva Rao served as Joint-Secretary to the AICC in 1985. He served at various positions in a number of committees at national level.

In November 2012, Kavuri Sambasiva Rao is said to be contemplating resigning from the Lok Sabha and the party as he was not inducted into the Union Council of Ministers in the cabinet expansion held a few weeks earlier. Attempts by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to console Sambasiva Rao went in vain.

Advocate of United Andhra Pradesh

Kavuri Sambasiva Rao is a strong advocate of United Andhra Pradesh. He is a firm opposer to a separate Telangana state.

In December 2012, Sambasiva Rao expressed his dissent on the all-party meeting convened on December 28, 2012 by the Centre on the Telangana statehood issue.

Bharatiya Janata Party

On May 1, 2014 Kavuri Sambasiva Rao has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. He took the party membership from BJP national leader and prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi at a public meeting organized by BJP in Bhimavaram of West Godavari district. Addressing the gathering, Kavuri said Modi will be the perfect prime minister for the country. He said he will work with Modi in the BJP party.

Timeline

On November 21, 2012 Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy met Kavuri Sambasiva Rao to persuade him not to resign. However, the effort went in vain as Sambasiva Rao stayed firm on his resignation.
