Kapil Sibal

Kapil Sibal is an Indian Politician and is the Minister for Communications and Information Technology. He is a politician of the Indian National Congress party.

Sibal was the former minister for Union Human Resource and Development of India.

India against controlling or governing Internet in the country

Kapil Sibal said that the Government of India is against controlling or governing the Internet in the country. However, he said that, he want a consensus among the stakeholders to deal with the issues that might come up in the future.

Speaking at the 'India Internet Governance Conference' meeting in New Delhi on 24 September 2012 Kapil Sibal said that while some aspects of the Internet are protected by free speech, some others are not. He said that as India empowers its democracy further, the country will fully embrace Internet.



Kapil Sibal announces the new version of Aakash tablet PC is expected to be available from 11 November 2012 onwards. Sibal told reporters at the Economics Editors' Conference on 8 October 2012 that the price of the device is expected to come down. The new version of Aakash boasts a 1 Ghz processor, four-hour battery time along with Android 4 operating system.

No Roaming Charges from 2013
Kapil Sibal, on 12 December 2012 has announced that mobile phone users in India will not have to pay any charges on roaming from 2013 onwards. Speaking at a press conference, Sibal said "Roaming will be free in 2013. We have to get Cabinet approval and then it comes back to us. And then it will be floated,"


In the 2G spectrum controversy, Kapil Sibal blamed NDA saying all decisions on the allocation of 2G spectrum starting from 2003 were incorrect. The remarks came in February 2011.

In February 2011, Sibal sought apology from US over Wurr's comments on radio collars.
