As of Saturday, May 16, 2009 10:44:09 AM IST, he is leading by 96,522 votes over his nearest CPI-M rival Jibesh Sarkar in Darjeeling Lok Sabha constituency in the 2009 Indian Parliamentary Elections.

Resignation from BJP Party positions

Jaswant Singh submitted his resignation to Bharatiya Janata Party posts amidst differences within party soon after defeat in the recent 2009 Lok Sabha elections. Jaswant said he will continue to work as a party worker. On June 13, 2009, the BJP president Rajnath Singh accepted Yashwant Sinhas resignation from all party posts held by him.
