Geetika Sharma Suicide Case

Gopal Kanda is the prime accused in the Geetika Sharma suicide case.

In 2012, Gopal Kanda is charged with abetting the suicide of air hostess Geetika Sharma. Geetika committed suicide on August 5, 2012. Kanda was on run for about 10 days and surrendered himself at the Ashok Vihar police station in Delhi on August 18.

Family seeks gag order

The family members of Gopal Kanda have moved the Punjab and Haryana high court seeking a gag order against media which they allege have published and broadcasted baseless news. The court issued notice to six television channels to respond to the contentions raised by October 12.

On September 20, 2012 a Delhi court has rejected the bail application of Gopal Kanda.

On 6 October 2012, Gopal Kanda and his close aide Arun Chadha were charged with abetment to suicide, criminal intimidation and destruction of evidence. A case was filed under sections 306, 506, 201, 467, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code and 34/66 of the IT Act.

The chargesheet mentioned that the immediate provocation for Geetika to commit suicide was a phone call from Kanda.
