Beni Prasad Verma is a Congress politician and a Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha. He won the Gonda Parliamentary Election.

Beni Prasad Verma is the Union Minister for Steel.

Political Career

Beni Prasad Verma spent years as a politician in the Samajwadi Party. He later shifted his loyalties to the Congress in 2009.

Beni Prasad served as the Minister for Public Works Department (PWD) Minister in Uttar Pradesh.

He fell out with Samajwadi Party chief in 2007 and contested on Congress ticket in 2009.

Controversies

In February 2012, Beni landed into trouble for his remarks on the minority sub-quota at an election rally in Farukkhabad during the UP Assembly elections. He was let off with a warning by the Election Commission.

Farmers can benefit from Inflation

In August 2012, Beni Prasad Verma said that the inflation would actually help farmers as they could benefit from the increasing prices. This triggered a strong criticism from the opposition parties. BJP leader Arun Jaitley said that Beni Prasad is not aware of the suicide of farmers due to the burden of debt. Samajawadi Party demands UPA to sack Beni Prasad from the cabinet.
