Bangaru Laxman

Bangaru Laxman was an Indian politician from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was President of party from 2000 to 2001. He was sentenced to four years in jail for defense deal corruption case. He was a member of BJP and RSS.

Bangaru Laxman was born on March 17, 1939. He joined politics at an early age. Laxman was the first Dalit president of the BJP party. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1996.


Bangaru Laxman has three daughters and a son. His wife Susheela Laxman Bangaru was a BJP member of the 14th Lok Sabha.


Bangaru Laxman was caught on camera in 2001 while accepting a bribe for a fake defence deal in 2001. The incident was the first time sting operations was conducted by television channels in India.


Laxman passed away on March 1, 2014 after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was not well and was being treated for a kidney ailment at a private hospital in Hyderabad
