Balineni Srinivasa Reddy was first elected to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly representing the Ongole constituency in 1999. He also won in the subsequent 2004 and 2009 elections.

Balineni Srinivasa Reddy is a relative of former Chief Minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. He is also a relative to Y V Subbarami Reddy and is very close to Jagan Mohan Reddy. Srinivasa Reddy has also some business dealings with Jagan.

After the resignation of Jagan from Congress party, Balineni Srinivasa Reddy was involved in lobbying with Congress MLAs to gather support to Jagan.
