About Arun Shourie

Arun Shourie is a Senior Bharatiya Janata Party Leader. He served as a Union Minister when the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance was in power.

Professional Biography

Arun Shourie served as an economist with the World Bank (1968-72 and 1975-77), a consultant to the Planning Commission, India, editor of the Indian Express and Times of India and a minister in the government of India (1998-2004). He was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1984.

Political views

Reacting on the Mumbai terrorist attacks, Shourie criticized the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance for not coming out with a strong anti-terror law in the country.

2012 Diesel Price Hike

Even as the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has opposed the diesel price hike, Arun Shourie lauded the move saying that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has for the first time shown his strength. "Increasing diesel prices was the need of the hour," said Shourie at a seminar in Bhopal on September 22, 2012.
