Amarinder Singh

Amarinder Singh is the chief of Congress Party in Punjab. He is a senior Congress politician and former Chief Minister of Punjab.

Amarinder Singh has left the Congress party in 1984 after the Operation Bluestar, which was led by Lt General Kuldeep Singh Brar to flush out terrorists from the Golden Temple in Amritsar. He rejoined the Congress party after a few years.

2014 Elections

Amarinder Singh was the Congress party Lok Sabha nominee to contest Amritsar constituency. He was initally reluctant to contest in the general elections. Instead, he wanted to tour all 13 constituencies of the State and campaign for Congress party. He however changed his decision on the request of AICC chief Sonia Gandhi.

He said that if Narendra Modi becomes Prime Minister there will be riots within six months. He also dismissed speculations of Modi wave in the country.


Amarinder Singh was reappointed the Chief of the Congress Party in Punjab on November 27, 2015.
