Akhilesh Yadav is an Indian Politician belonging to the Samajwadi Party. He is the current Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. His father Mulayam Singh Yadav is the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and is a Member of Parliament.

As Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh

After the Samajwadi Party won the 2012 assembly election, Akilesh Yadav became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He created history by becoming the youngest chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. Since he was a Member of Parliament, he has filed nomination papers for the biennial elections to 13 seats of Legislative Council.

Scraps decision of Mayawati to provide job reservation for SC officers

As the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akilesh Yadav has scrapped the decision of former Chief Minister Mayawati to provide government jobs reservation for SC officers. He has included Kunwar Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya in his cabinet, saying the charges against Raja Bhaiya were politically motivated. The ruling Samajwadi Party also has removed the security cover to former Chief Minister Mayawati.

Foreign Direct Investment

In August 2012, Akhilesh Yadav told a traders convention in Lucknow that the Samajwadi government was against FDI as it would hurt the small traders in the state. He added that they won't even consider FDI till there was advice for traders in the state.

Unemployment allowance scheme to youth

Akhilesh Yadav launched the Unemployment allowance scheme to the youth of the state in September 2012. The scheme was introduced by the Samjawadi Party in Mulayam Singh's regime but was scrapped when Bahujan Samaj Party came into power. The scheme was resumed by the Samajwadi Party again. Youth between the ages of 25 to 40, who are unemployed and passed high school and whose annual family income doesn't cross Rs. 36,000 per annum are eligible to receive Rs. 1000 per month as allowance under this scheme.

Kanya Vidya Dhan scheme

The Samajwadi Party intends to launch the Kanya Vidya Dhan scheme soon. Under this scheme, the government will provide Rs. 30,000 to girls who have passed class XII for pursuing higher education or to get married.

Waiver of Loans

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has waived off loans worth Rs. 1,650 crore to farmers on 22 November 2012 on the account of his father Mulayam Singh Yadav's 74th birthday. The waiver will benefit over 7 lakh farmers.

2009 Parliamentary Election

He won the 2009 Indian Parliamentary Elections by a margin of 1.11 lakh votes defeating Mahesh Verma (Bahujan Samaj Party) from the Kannauj Parliamentary constituency.
