Ajit Pawar

Ajit Anantrao Pawar is a politician of the Nationalist Congress Party in Maharashtra. He served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra in the Democratic Front government.

Ajit Pawar is the nephew of Union Minister Sharad Pawar.


Irregularities in Irrigation Projects

Ajit Pawar was alleged to have masterminded the irregularities in the allotment of contracts for multicrore irrigation projects in Vidarbha. The irregularities were allegedly committed when Ajit served as the Irrigation minister. The Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan was said to be unhappy with NCP’s handling of the irrigation project since 1999. In the view of its dismal performance, Ashok Chavan said that he would bring out a White Paper on the status of projects angering the NCP.

Resignation as Deputy Chief Minister

On September 25, 2012 Ajit Pawar has submitted his resignation from the post of Deputy CM. His resignation was sent to Chief Minister Ashok Chavan. The resignation was not accepted immediately as it would create a crisis in the Maharashtra government, which is coalition of Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party.

On 28 Sep 2012, NCP chief Sharad Pawar has confirmed that the Nationalist Congress Party has agreed for the resignation of Ajit Pawar. His resignation was accepted by the Maharashtra government and Governor K Sankaranarayanan on 29 Sep 2012.
