Controversies

Dented and Painted Women

In December 2012, Abhijik Mukherjee got embroiled into a controversy when he called the protesters in Delhi who are protesting against the Delhi gangrape incident as "dented and painted" women. He has retracted his comments later, but his justification of the comments triggered more controversy.

Mukherjee first said that it became fashionable to attend demonstrations and protests and added that the women and girls protesting at India Gate in Delhi could not be students as many of them used make up. He said he would quit if the Congress party asks him to.
