Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is the daughter of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and UPA Chairperson Ms. Sonia Gandhi. AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi is her brother. She is the wife of businessman Robert Vadra.

Professional Biography

Election campaigning

Priyanka Gandhi campaigned for Sonia in 1999 and 2004 parliamentary elections.

In September 2012, she denied rumors that she would join active politics. Priyanka Gandhi said that she would look after the constituencies represented by her mother and brother as she did earlier. "I have been doing so since 1991. As there have been organisational issues lately, I will be travelling to Rae Bareli now and then to look into them,"she said.

2009 Indian Parliament Elections campaigning

During her April 09 election campaign, she termed development is an election issue and urged people to vote strictly on the issue of development.

2014 Elections

Like the previous elections, Priyanka Gandhi stayed away from contesting and instead campaigned for the party. Though her brother Rahul Gandhi requested her to contest, Priyanka chose to stay away and told the media that it was a personal decision.

At an electoral campaign in Rae Bareli, Priyanka Gandhi broke her silence on the opposition party's continuous political attacks on her husband Robert Vadra. Addressing a gathering, Priyanka said that she has been humiliated but said that it will only make her stronger. Invoking her grand mother's name, Priyanka Gandhi said that she learnt from Indira Gandhi that truth becomes courage and it prevails in the end.

Priyanka Gandhi took dig at Narendra Modi saying that one doesn't need a 56-inch chest but a big heart to run the country. Priyanka was referring to Modi's remarks at Gorakhpur rally when he said that it would take a 56-inch chest to convert UP into Gujarat. Apr 27, 2014
