On October 5, 2009, he attended court for the first time on Monday after staying away from it for some days following a controversy related to him allegedly acquiring property in illegal ways. Media reports on November 1, 2009 said the Supreme Court's collegium has decided that he would not be promoted to the post of Supreme Court Judge.
