On February 11, 2011 Mohan Bhagwat asserted that there is a need to frame a new law to stop religious conversion.

On January 10, 2011, he slammed Congress party for allegedly linking Hindu groups with extremism and said that there was no place for radical elements in the party.

Mohan Bhagawat made a controversial remark saying rapes are prevalent in urban India due to western influence and such crimes against women do not happen in rural areas. The remark has been slammed by the Congress and CPI(M) parties. The BJP and RSS said that the remark should be seen in perspective.

Mohan Bhagawat has stoked a controversy saying that a husband and a wife are bound by a contract by marriage. The husband is responsible to keep the wife safe and to earn the livelihood for the both, while the wife is bound to take care of the house, he said. Jan 6, 2013
