About John Solecki

John Solecki is an American citizen and the head of the UNHCR in Quetta. He is kidnapped at gunpoint on February 2, 2009 while travelling to work killing his driver. Balochistan Liberation United Front (BLUF) claimed the responsibility of the incident. The United Nations has stepped in and asked the abductors to get in direct contact with them. A video release showed Solecki in a black mask saying he is unwell. The kidnappers also demanded the release of 141 women Baloch detainees who are in Pakistani custody, and information about 6,000 men 'missing' from operations to put down Baluchistan's insurgency. A fresh television footage showed the abductors giving the final 4-day deadline. Earlier strong rumours that Solecki was killed are out.
