About National Security Guard

National Security Guard is a premier security wing set up in 1984 by the Indian Government as a Federal Contingency Deployment Force to tackle all facets of terrorism in the country, with the primary role of combating terrorism in whatever forms it may assume.

The NSG is a force specially equipped and trained to deal with specific situations and is therefore, to be used only in exceptional situations. It is a task-oriented force with two complementary elements in the form of the Special Action Group (SAG) comprising Indian Army personnel and the Special Ranger Groups (SRG), comprising personnel drawn from the Central Police Forces and State Police Force. The NSG deals with anti terrorist operations or operations that are of national security interest. The NSG played an important role in the Mumbai terror strikes of November 2008. JK Dutt is the Director General of NSG.

In December 08, the NSG decided to include its experience in the Mumbau terror strike operation into its training schedule. It has also discussed with Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta about proposals for the setting up of four NSG hubs to facilitate quick deployment of the commandos at times of emergency, drawing commandos from the three armed forces, a proposal for an air wing for the elite commando force and about its recruitment drive.

Speaking at the NSG Silver Jubilee Celebrations, Union Home Minister P.Chidambaram promised better hi-tech weaponry.
