Professional Biography

Burress has 35 catches for 454 yards and four touchdowns during end of 2008 season.

Burress was barred from practice for two weeks in October 08 and sat out a game for missing a meeting and failing to contact the Giants. He was originally fined two weeks' pay, or about $235,000, before reaching a settlement with the team that cut the amount in half.

The NFL also fined Burress $45,000 last month for verbally abusing an official during a win over San Francisco.

Burress led the New York Giants with 70 catches for 1,025 yards during the 2007 season, when he played most games with an ankle injury. He also caught the winning touchdown pass in the final minute of the New York Giants 17-14 victory over the New England Patriots in last season's Super Bowl.

Accidentially shooting himself - November 2008

On November 29, 2008, Burress has accidentially shot himself when his gun slipped down from his pants at the Latin Quarter nightclub in Midtown Manhattan, was admitted at the hospital and discharged later. It is revealed that the security guards had allowed Burress to enter with a loaded .40-caliber Glock semiautomatic pistol tucked in the waistband of his pants. According to court prosecutors, the gun was not in a holster. The license for the gun, issued in Florida, expired about seven months before the shooting. Burress is not allowed to carry the gun in New York as the license is for Florida. A second-degree criminal possession of a weapon is charged against him which could land him in prison for a period of 3 1/2 years. In August 09, he pleaded to a lesser charge to receive a shorter sentence. On September 22, 2009, he is ordered two-year prison sentence from Justice Michael H. Melkonian of State Supreme Court in Manhattan.
