Anwar Ibrahim


Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is a politician in Malaysia.

Anwar Ibrahim is the opposition leader in Malaysia. He is an MP from Permatang Pauh. In March 2010, he criticized the Government for the weaknesses in the Malaysian economy because of priming measures, over reliance on petro dollars, the widening public-private investments gap and capital flight in the country.

Anwar Ibrahim was a former deputy prime minister.

Charges of Sodomy and Corruption

Anwar Ibrahim was previously jailed for six years on sodomy and corruption charges.

He is sentenced five years in prison on charges of sodomy after three judges of a Malaysian Court of Appeal have unanimously voted to overturn Anwar's acquital two years ago.

Lawyers of Ibrahim won a stay on the sentence pending an appeal. If he loses the appeal, Ibrahim would be barred from contesting the 2018 elections.
