Justice K G Balakrishnan is the 37th Chief Justice of India. He is succeeded by S H Kapadia who took oath from the Indian President Pratibha Devisingh Patil at Rashtrapati Bhawan on May 12, 2010 as the 38th Chief Justice of India.

Professional Biography

On April 7, 08, Justice Balakrishnan, in his letter, has recommended the government to set up 69 additional Special Courts for trial of corruption cases investigated by CBI.

In December 08, Justice Balakrishnan has recommended the retirement from service of any judicial officer who is unfit, ineffective, incompetent or has doubtful integrity.

In January 09, Justice Balakrishnan and CIC are in disagreement on making assets of its judges available to the public and is not relenting on his stand that judges are not bound to disclose their wealth.
