Bombay High Court

Bombay High Court is the High Court of India with jurisdiction over the states of Maharashtra & Goa, and, the Union Territories of Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The State High Court has regional benches at Nagpur and Aurangabad in Maharashtra and Panaji, Goa.

The Bombay High Court has the sanctioned strength of 75 judges.

Prominent Cases

On May 9, 2012, while hearing a divorce petition filed by a man on ground that his wife is unwilling to relocate to his new place of work, the Bombay High Court observed that a wife should be like goddess Sita who left everything and followed her husband Lord Ram to a forest and stayed there for 14 years.

Ban on 'Innocence of Muslims'

The Bombay High Court will hear a writ petition on September 24, 2012 seeking ban on the anti-Islam film 'Innocence of Muslims' that has generated huge controversy around the world. A Congress politician Ameen Mustafa Idrisi filed the petition seeking removal of the film content on the Internet. The petitioner also sough action against Google CEO Larry Page and Chairman Eric Schmidt for letting the film stay on the Internet on their site.
