Keiji Furuya

Keiji Furuya is a politician belonging to Liberal Democratic Party of Japan.

He is a member of the House of Representatives in the Diet.

Early Life & Education

Furuya studied at secondary schools in NY area. He is a graduate from Seikei University.


Keiji Furuya was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1990.

As of 2014, he is a Cabinet minister in Japanese Government. He chairs the National Public Safety Commission.

Furuya regularly visits the Yasukuni shrine to pay honors to the dead in spring and autumn festivals.


Furuya paid respects to the dead including war criminals at the Yasukuni shrine. His visit to the shrine caused friction with Japan's neighbors. He defended his visit saying that honoring the dead who gave up their lives for the cuntry is the right thing to do. Apr 20, 2014
