Polio


Polio is an infectious viral disease that can cause paralysis.

Polio in India

As of 2012, India has been polio-free for two years. The World Health Organization has removed India from the list of polio-endemic countries in 2012 which is a major milestone for India. The last polio case that was detected in India was contracted by a two-year-old girl who was paralyzed in Howrah district of West Bengal on January 31, 2013.

Assistance to Pakistan

India has been assisting Pakistan in the steps to be taken to become polio-free. Teams from Pakistan has been interacting with India to understand the steps taken to become polio-free. The Indian teams have also been visiting Pakistan to help them work out a strategy to eliminate the disease in Pakistan.
