Bahrain Grand Prix

Bahrain Grand Prix is a Formula One Racing tournament held at the Bahrain International Circuit in Bahrain.

2012 Season

The Formula One authorities came under intense pressure to cancel the 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix that was schedule to be held in April 2012. Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn in London won support for an early day motion, which believes that the Formula One race will be used by the Bahrain Government as an endorsement of its policies of suppression of dissent. Even in Bahrain, the All Party Parliamentary Group for Democracy in Bahrain has published an open letter, which it has sent to some of Formula One's biggest sponsors, requesting them to shun this race.

Thousands of protesters staged a protest in Al Dair, north east of Manama, against the 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix. A protester said, "I love F1. But not over our blood. They are forcing it on us." On April 13, three teenagers were wounded at a rally in Manama after the funeral of a man shot during a protest two weeks ago. Petrol bombs were thrown at police, who used tear gas.

Circuit chairman of the Bahrain Grand Prix, Zayed Al Zayani, has guaranteed safety concerns during the race will be taken care of. On April 13, International Automobile Federation (FIA) has made it clear that the proposed Bahrain Grand Prix will take place as per schedule.
