Unlawful sex, legal suite and other updates

Samantha Geimer is an unlawful sex victim. She filed a lawsuit against him in 1988 accusing him of sexual assault and various other related charges. Settlement documents show that Polanski agreed to pay Geimer 500,000 dollars with interest in October 1993 within two years, reports Contactmusic. Documents also show that Geimer had to approach the court again after Polanski failed to pay by 1995. However, it is not known if the director paid the full sum. Polanski had fled to France from the US, in 1978 to avoid imprisonment after pleading guilty to the charge of having unlawful sex with 13-year-old Geimer (then Gailey) and is currently under arrest in Zurich, Switzerland.

In September 09, Polanski's rape victim has repeatedly requested the authorities to withdraw charges against the director. Meanwhile Polanski was detained in Switzerland for a case of unlawful sex and it appeared he is prepared to fight his extradition to the US. His Wikipedia page was locked after edit war over child sex controversy. His arrest has distressed his victim, who has become centre of the story again almost thirty years after the crime, according to her family. Polanskis former sister-in-law says hes a good guy. His Swiss neighbours have extended support to the director. Actress Whoopi Goldberg has sparked anger by claiming that Polanski wasnt guilty of rape. Goldberg slammed accusations that she condoned rape on her U.S. TV talk show, insisting that she was just trying to put the facts right about the charges levelled against the director. Following the arrest, US prosecutors have had to dispute claims that it had come out of the blues, saying that he had been on the Interpol wanted list for years. The French government has withdrew its support to Polanski after a campaign for his release was shunned by many leading European political and cultural figures. A Los Angeles County district attorney said that Polanski is not being persecuted but the case has to be wrapped up legally. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said that Polanski should not get any special privileges because of his contribution to cinema and must be treated like everyone else.

In March 2010, Seigner said she is sure her husbands legal woes will get over pretty soon insisting they have left behind the worst of the Oscar-winning filmmakers 32-year-old illegal sex case.
