Polling for about 200 Rajasthan assembly seats will be held on December 4, 2008. The ruling BJP has fielded candidates for 193 seats, while the opposition Congress, has fielded candidates for all the 200 assembly seats. There are also 1023 independent candidates in the fray. The Election Commission in 33 districts had set up over 42 thousand booths. The counting process will be held on December 8, 2008.

Polling on December 4, 2008

The polling process began on the morning of December 4, 2008. By noon, about 25% of votes are reported to have been cast. About 60 percent polling is reported at the end of the day. The official puts the number at a record of over 65 percent. An incident of firing was reported from Todabhim constituency in Karauli where a clash occurred between two groups belonging to Gujjar and Meena communities. One person was injured in the firing, Home Secretary S N Thanvi said.

Vote Counting

Counting of votes of the elections began on the morning of December 8, 2008.

Election results

The Congress Party won the elections. Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje has won the Jhalarapatan seat while Congress's chief ministerial candidate Ashok Gehlot won from Sardarpura seat.
