Operation Blue Star

The 'Operation Blue Star' was carried out in 1987 to flush out the pro-Khalistan militants from the Golden Temple. The operation was led by Lt Gen KS Brar. The assault on the terrorists' hideout in the Golden Temple was carried out by Brigadier Israr Rahim Khan.

In October 2012, Brar was attacked by four men when he was on a private visit to London. The assailants are suspected to be Khalistan sympathisers. Brar and his wife are returning to the hotel when the attack happened. He suffered a wound on his neck and cheek and his wife is not injured. Brar returned to India after the attack.

On 11 October 2012, the Ministry for Home Affairs (MFA), at a security review meeting took the decision of providing security to all Operation Blue Star veterans. The Ministry also decided to continue category Z security to Lt Gen Brar.
