Durrani is born in 1941 at Abbottabad and started career as a Pakistani army officer and later as Pakistan Ambassador to the United States.

Durrani was on a 5-day visit to New Delhi during October 08 when he will be meeting with a list of Indian diplomats including Indian National Security Adviser M K Narayanan, government officials and political leaders. "I have an open agenda, friendship is my agenda", he said upon arriving in India.
