About Deccan Chargers

Deccan Chargers is an Indian cricketing team which plays in Indian Premier League. In September 2009, it is reported that the team will go public in 2011. The winning team's players are offered stock options.

Deccan Chargers put up auction

Following financial trouble in 2012, the Deccan Chargers has been put on sale by its owners Deccan Chronicle Holdings Limited. The advertisement for the auction was published on September 6, 2012. The auction happened on September 13, 2012. A single bid came up for the auction from PVP Ventures, a company that finances film projects in India. The bid was rejected by DCHL.

DC moves to Bombay High Court

Following the rejection of the bid, the BCCI has terminated the Chargers' franchise on September 14, 2012. Deccan Chargers moved to court in Bombay High Court. The court heard both the parties and the matter has been placed for hearing on September 17, 2012.

High Court orders Status quo

The Bombay High Court has directed the BCCI to maintain status quo regarding the termination of Deccan Chargers. The Deccan Chargers, in its petition, said that the decision of BCCI to terminate the contract is illegal and bad in law. The BCCI informed the High Court that it was not inviting tenders for Deccan Chargers team. BCCI in its affidavit said that it intends to invite tenders for new teams for cities like Ahmedabad, Vizag and Coimbatore. Justice SJ Kathawall posted the matter for further hearing on September 24.

DCHL announces decision to sell

Deccan Chargers Holdings Ltd (DCHL) has failed to furnish a Rs. 100 crore bank guarantee by the deadline set by the Bombay High Court. The court on October 9 has given an extension till October 12. However, DCHL sought another extension till October 15, which has been rejected by the court. Since they failed to provide the bank guarantee, the status quo set by the Bombay High Court on Deccan Chargers IPL franchise is automatically lifted. The BCCI will now be available to invite fresh bids.

Earlier in the day, DCHL announced their decision to sell the franchise to a Mumbai-based real estate developer Kamla Landmarc Real Estate Holdings Pvt. Ltd. for an undisclosed amount. Analysts believe that the deal may be worth Rs. 1000 crore. Following the announcement of decision, the DCHL shares rose 4.92 percent to Rs. 9.60 on BSE. Since the court rejected the plea for an extension to provide bank guarantee, the deal is now under question.
