Xbox Music

Microsoft Corporation

Xbox Music is a digital music service by Microsoft. It will be available on Microsoft's line of products including Xbox 360 video game console, Windows 8 PCs and tablets, and Windows Phone devices.

Xbox Music is born after Microsoft's research found that people on Xbox spend 60% of their time using entertainment services rather than playing video games.

Xbox Music will have over 30 million songs. It is considered successor of Microsoft's Zune brand, which was discontinued in June 2012.

The Free service offers unlimited streaming to Windows 8 tables and PCs. The free service is scheduled to last six months but may be changed in the future. The free version of Xbox Music will enable users to stream music, with advertisements appearing every 15 minutes.

A paid $10-per-month subscription will offer downloads of songs and the ability to stream to their Xbox game console as well as their Windows Phone 8 handsets.

Xbox Music will be the default music player for Windows 8. The free mode is activated by default if users have their Windows 8 set up with a Live account and credit card.

Xbox Music will debut on Xbox 360 game console on 16 October 2012.

Xbox Music is Microsoft's product to compete more directly with Apple's iTunes Store, Google's Google Play, and Spotify. Xbox Music will have 30 millions songs more than iTunes which has around 26 million tracks as of October 2012.

Xbox Music is expected to launch along with Microsoft's mobile operating system Windows Phone 8 on October 26th, 2012.
