Yipes Enterprise Services, a leading managed data and application delivery company was acquired by RCOM and later renamed Reliance Globalcom.

In December 08, people belonging to the Sikh community in Meerut staged violent protests after taking serious offence to a joke circulated on a mobile network, and has demanded apology from the chief of the RCOM, Anil Ambani.

In June 2010, reacting to some news reports, AT&T said it is not in discussions with RCOM.

In October 09, Reliance Data Center, a part of Reliance Communications, announced the launch of Reliance Cloud Computing Services - hosted infrastructure service for its customers, based on the Microsoft platform.


Financial Results for year ended March 31, 2009

RCOM announced the financial results year ended March 31, 2009. Net Profit up by 9.4% to Rs. 5,908 crore (US$ 1,165 million); Revenues higher by 20.3% at Rs. 22,941 crore (US$ 4,523 Million); EBITDA higher by 13.3% at Rs. 9,288 crore (US$ 1,831 million); EBITDA margin stable at 40.5%, among the highest in India; Only company to have nationwide GSM & CDMA services in india; Second largest mobile operator in india with 73 million subscribers.

  • In August 09, the company announced plans to invest Rs 1,000 crore on rural telecom infrastructure. The company is planning to boost its fibre optic, hybrid data network.

Allegations of understating accounts

A special audit done by a Jaipur-based firm shows RCom has inflated revenues and has under-paid license and spectrum fee by Rs 316 crore in FY07-08. A leading business media outlet which got a copy of executive summary report says that RCom has under-reported Rs 808 crore in FY07 and Rs 1,991 crore in FY08 that led to low license and spectrum fee to the Department of Telecom (DoT). The DoT audit claims a gap of Rs. 2900 crores in the company's actual and stated revenue. If the allegations are found to be correct, there will be a punishment of imprisionment for upto 10 years. On October 14, 2009, the SEBI said it will look into the misrepresentation of revenue by RCom.
