Nike, Inc. is an American multinational corporation that is engaged in the design, development and worldwide marketing and selling of footwear, apparel, equipment, accessories and services. The company is headquartered near Beaverton, Oregon.

Nike is the world's leading supplier of athletic shoes and apparel and a major manufacturer of sports equipment, with revenue in excess of US$24.1 billion in its fiscal year 2012 (ending May 31, 2012). As of 2012, it employed more than 44,000 people worldwide. The brand alone is valued at $10.7 Billion making it the most valuable brand among sports businesses. Nike and Precision Castparts are the only Fortune 500 companies headquartered in the state of Oregon, according to The Oregonian.

Drops sponsorship to Lance Armstrong

Nike has dumped Lance Armstrong after the doping charges leveled against the cyclist reached a new level in October 2012. Nike has dropped its sponsorship to Armstrong ending its 16-year relationship with the cyclist. The relationship began in 1996. Nike will change the name of the Lance Armstrong Fitness Center at its world headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon.

The announcement was made by Nike on 17 October 2012. It came as a surprise as Nike stuck by athletes including Tiger Woods and Kobe Bryant during their public woes.
