Robert Vadra is a businessman and the husband of Priyanka Gandhi. He is the son-in-law of AICC president Sonia Gandhi.


Personal Biography

Robert Vadra was born on 18 April 1969 to Rajendra and Maureen Vadra. His family is of Scottish origin. His family is from Sialkot, Pakistan. Robert Vadra's father Rajendra moved to India at the time of partition.

Robert Vadra is from Moradabad. His father Rajendra Vadra ran a brass and wood handicraft export business and his mother Maureen is a playschool teacher in Delhi.


Robert Vadra studied at The British School.


Robert Vadra met Priyanka Gandhi, the daughter of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and AICC president Sonia Gandhi, when she was 13. They got married in 1997. The couple has two children - a son Raihan and daughter Miraya.

Family Tragedies

Robert Vadra suffered a number of family tragedies. His estranged father was found dead at a Delhi motel in 2009. His elder brother Richard Vadra committed suicide in 2003. Robert Vadra's sister Michelle died in a car accident in 2001.

On 7 May 2009, Robert Vadra cast his vote at the Vidyabhavan Mahavidyalaya booth at Lodhi estate in New Delhi amidst tight security.

Professional Career

Robert Vadra has a number of businesses in his career.

He first started Artex, a handicraft business in 1997. He later diversified into other industries like real estate, hospitality etc. Robert's mother Maureen is a director in all of his companies.

He started Sky Light Hospitality, Sky Light Realty, North India IT Parks, Real Earth Estates and Blue Breeze Trading between November 2007 and June 2008. All of the companies were started with a paid-up share capital between Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 25 lakh.

Robert Vadra has business interests in the following companies.

  • Substantial stake in the parent company of IndiGo airlines
  • Owns Artex, a small company specialising in jewellery and handicraft exports
  • Vadra's companies have received unsecured loans from DLF Limited
  • Sky Light Hospitality Pvt Ltd - owned by Vadra and his mother Maureen Vadra
  • Partner in a firm that owns Hilton Garden Inn in the South Delhi business district Saket
  • Blue Breeze Trading Pvt Ltd (aircraft chartering) - Maureen Vadra is a director
  • North India IT Parks Pvt Ltd - Maureen Vadra is a director
  • Real Earth Estates Pvt Ltd - Maureen Vadra is a director
  • Sky Light Realty Pvt Ltd - Maureen Vadra is a director
  • Owns 20 per cent stake in Unitech

Allegations of Corruption

The members of India Against Corruption has raised allegations of corruption against Robert Vadra in October 2012. The allegations were followed by demands of probe by India Against Corruption and Bharatiya Janata Party. The Congress party defended Robert Vadra and challenged IAC to go to court if they have any proofs on the allegations.
