Person of Interest in connection to a murder

John McAfee is a person of interest for the Belize police in connection to the murder of his neighbor and fellow American Gregory Viant Faull in Belize. The Belize police have started a search for John McAfee on November 12, 2012.

Faull was found dead due to a gunshot wound on November 10, 2012 at his home on the island of Ambergris Caye.

McAfee has maintained his innocence in interviews after the incident and is in hiding. He said that the anti-gang police units want him dead and would kill him if he comes out of hiding. The claim was ridiculed by the Belize prime minister Dean Barrow who called McAfee "extremely paranoid, even bonkers."

McAfee told The Associated Press on November 15, 2012 that he is in hiding with a young woman in Belize. He said he is unarmed and has been changing locations frequently.

Arrest in Guatemala

John McAfee was arrested by the Guatemala authorities on December 5, 2012 for illegally entering their territory. He was arrested along with his 20-year-old girlfriend in a hotel in Guatemla City. They said that McAfee will be deported to Belize where he is wanted for questioning.

McAfee, on 8 December 2012, said that he would like to return to United States. Responding to his claims, a US state department spokeswoman said that US citizens in foreign countries are subject to the local laws and that they can only ensure that they are treated properly within this framework.
