About Rashtrapati Bhavan

Rashtrapati Bhavan is the official Residence of the Indian President. The Rashtrapati Bhavan is considered one of the most prominent architectural construction in Delhi.

Mughal Gardens is the name of the garden / nursery at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. A view of about 125 varieties of flowers in full bloom are made open for public display from February 7 to March 10, 2009.

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil took the initiative of having a crhche meant for the benefit of children of labourers working in Rashtrapati Bhavan. It was inaugurated by Chachimma Christy, the spouse of the Secretary to the President, Dr. Christy Fernandez.

Change of Guard

The 'Change of Guard' is a military tradition of the Presidential Bodyguard. The ceremony is held to enable a fresh body of troops take charge. The Change of Guard of the Presidential Bodyguard is a series of military traditions including bugles, bands and the horse-riding of President's Body Guards. The Change of Guard is performed in the backdrop of the majestic dome of the Presidential House.

In a bid to make Rashtrapati Bhavan more people friendly, the 'change of guard' of the Presidential Bodyguard will be open for the public every Saturday. The Rashtrapati Bhavan will host 200 public visitors every Saturday for watching the ceremony.

Open on Weekends

Rashtrapati Bhavan will be open on Weekends for people to visit starting January 2013. An online reservation system was launched on 21 December 2012 to streamline booking system for visitors. According to Press Secretary to the President Venu Rajamony, the Rashtrapati Bhavan will be open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 4 pm.

Routes for Visitors

The entry to Rashtrapati Bhavan is free of cost and can be booked 30 days in advance.

Two routes are identified for visitors of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

First route

The first route covers Forecourt, Reception, Lutyens' Gallery, Marble Hall, Kitchen Museum, Children's Gallery, Gift Museum, Durbar Hall, Library, Long Drawing Room, North Drawing Room, Ashoka Hall and Banquet Hall.

Second route

The second route will include all the places in the first route and the Mughal Gardens.
