New York Yankees

The New York Yankees are an American professional baseball team based in The Bronx, New York City, New York. The Yankees compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) in the American League's (AL) East Division.

The club was founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1901 as the Baltimore Orioles. The team moved to New York City in 1903 and became the New York Highlanders, before taking the "Yankees" as their official name in 1913.

New York Yankees is owned by Yankee Global Enterprises, an LLC controlled by the family of George Steinbrenner, who purchased the team in 1973.

New York Yankees played their home games at Yankee Stadium from 1923 to 1973 and from 1976 to 2008. In 2009, they moved into a new ballpark also called Yankee Stadium after the previous venue was closed.

2012 American League Championship Series

New York Yankees is pitted against Detroit Tigers in the 2012 American League Championship Series. They were swept 4-0, for the first time in 32 years.

The first game of the best-of-seven playoff was played on 13 October 2012. Detroit Tigers beast New York Yankees 6-4 in the match that was played at Yankee Stadium.

Yankees lost the second game on 14 October 2012 3-0 which was also played at Yankee Stadium.

The third game was played on 16 October 2012, with Detroit Tigers defeating New York Yankees 2-1.

Detroit Tigers beat New York Yankees 8-1 in the fourth game on 18 October 2012 to head to the World Series.
