World Bank Group


World Bank Group is a family of five international organizations that makes leveraged loans, generally to poor countries. It came into formal existence on December 27, 1945.

The five agencies of the World Bank Group are:

  • International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD)
  • International Development Association (IDA)
  • International Finance Corporation (IFC)
  • Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA)
  • International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID)

World Bank

The term "World Bank" generally refers to just the IBRD and IDA, whereas the term World Bank Group or WBG is used to refer to all five institutions collectively. The official goal of World Bank is the reduction of poverty
