About Kenichi Tago

Kenichi Tago (Born: July 16, 1989; Height: 1.74 m; Weight: 70 kg; Hardness: Right handed) is an Japanese Mens Badminton player. In 2010, he was in news for becoming the first Japanese Badminton player in about a half-century to reach the Singles finals of the All-England Championships held at National Indoor Arena, Birmingham, UK. In the process of reaching the finals, he defeated three seeded players including Joachim Persson, Chen Jin and Bao Chunlai. In the final, Tago lost to the first seed and reigning World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia with a score of 21–19 and 21–19, following an incorrect line call in LCW's favour at matchpoint.

  • March 13, 2010: Tago becomes the first Japanese player for nearly half a century to reach the men's singles final at the 2010 All-England Championships when he saved a match point to beat Bao Chunlai 18-21, 22-20, 21-17.
