Kingfisher Airways is an India-based airliner with both domestic and international airtravel operations. Dr. Vijay Mallya is the Chairman and CEO of the company.
Kingfisher Airways launched its operations in May 2005.
In January 07, the airliner launched direct flights between Bangalore and Tiruchirapally and later between Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram. During the month, Kingfisher Airlines bagged the 2006 Avaya Global Connect Award for Customer Responsiveness. The airliner inaugurated a 'State of the Art' City Ticketing Office in Kolkata.
In February 07, the airliner re-engineerd Guest Processing Functions with Multi-Million Dollar Deal with Sabre Airline Solutions.
In March 07, Kingfisher became the first Indian airliner to offer a premium first class service on domestic routes with the launch of its direct flights to Agatti from Kochi and stop-over flights from most major cities in India. This makes it the only private airline from India to launch a service to this destination.
Celebrating its second anniversary in May 2007, the company brought Airbus A380 on its maiden visit to India.
In January 09, Kingfisher teamed up with Hilton HHonors - the guest rewards program for the more than 3,000 Hilton Family Hotels worldwide.
In February 09, Kingfisher announced cut in its pilots salaries by Rs. 80,000. During the month flights between Solapur and Mumbai are announced.
On September 15, 2009, a Kingfisher Airlines Mumbai to Bangalore flight made an emergency landing at Mumbai Airport soon after take-off after its landing gear malfunctioned. Guinness heiress Clare Irby, accused of indulging in a sex act on a Bangalore-London flight, has been cleared of being drunk on board the Kingfisher Airlines aircraft.
