Delhi High Court lifts stay on 'Gulaab Gang' movie
March 6, 2014 - New Delhi
Delhi High Court on Thursday lifted the stay granted to 'Gulaab Gang' movie. The movie is now cleared to hit the screens on Friday.
A division bench of acting Chief Justice BD Ahmed and Justice Siddharth Mridul said that the film can only be shown after giving a clear disclaimer that it has nothing to do with the lift of Sampat Pal and her organization Gulaab Gang.
It may be recalled here that the release was stayed by a single judge bench on Wednesday after taking note of defamation law suit filed by Sampat Pal, a Uttar Pradesh-based activist.
The petitioner alleged that ‘Gulaab Gang’ comprising women vigilantes wearing pink sarees and the members help harassed women and girls by resorting to peaceful means. The petitioner contended that the promos of the film show that the leader role was shown in a contrary manner.
The Division bench lifted the stay order after hearing the arguments from both the sides.
